Overview
As we depart from St. George's, we travel past the stadium on our right and head up the picturesque west coast, which is steeped in history and vibrant hues.
Our initial destination is Concord Waterfall, which is located 1.2 miles up a verdant lane beside a stream. The area is adorned with various Grenadian crops, including nutmeg, bananas, cocoa, and other fascinating plants.
Following that, we will take you to the nutmeg "pool" in Gouyave, where you will witness the seasoning, processing, and sorting of nutmeg and mace. Nutmeg products range from syrup to massage oil, garden mulch to nail varnish, and even pain-relieving spray.
We will then continue our journey northward, where you will experience a stunning view of Grenada's Grenadine islands and the spot where the last fighting Caribs took their lives in 1651, overwhelmed by the prospect of French rule.
Our next stop is the River Antoine Rum Distillery, which dates back to 1785, and the rum produced here is 75% alcohol - quite potent! Despite its age, the distillery is incredibly well-planned and has eco-friendly features, making it hard to believe that it is a functioning distillery and not a museum.
Once we've worked up an appetite, we will head to our preferred lunch venue, Belmont Estate, set amidst idyllic rural surroundings. The buffet offers an array of delectable local dishes, and there is even a cocoa bean fragmentary on the premises, which we are eager to show you.
In the afternoon, we will travel through La Poterie and Tivoli, then through Pearls Airport, which has been unused since the American intervention in 1983. Currently, sheep graze beneath the remains of two old Soviet-built planes.
As we drive through Grenville, Grenada's second-largest town, we will make our way to the island's mountainous rainforest, where we will visit the Grand Etang crater lake before returning to St. George's.
